Malcom I am mostly and IT guy and I do not have any personal experience myself with this kind of devices.
All I know is that there are small anti tracking GPS jammer devices that can be plugged into a car cigarrete lighter to jam the airwaves and stop roadside car bombs activated by mobile phone, car thieves also use it when they steal a luxury car with GPS tracking, all privacy high tech has always a good and bad use.
I have only seen once a portable mobile phone signal blocker(25-Meter Range), I do not even know if this is legal in the UK
I searched via Ixquick and the internet seems full offers. I am sorry I can not reccomend you anything in particular, my knowledge of these devices is poor.
Only one advice, be very careful if you import any GPS jammer from the US or China, because they may be illegal in the UK and Customs and Excise will confiscate it and refer the case to the police.
Not all devices sold in the US are also legal in the UK, there used to be same problem a year ago with an iPod FM accessory that was illegal to be sold in the UK, due to the frequency range it used.
